Nestled in a curve of the Yarra, the Abbotsford Convent has 11 historic buildings set in beautiful gardens which hark back to the 1860s.  Now the Convent has been re-invented to become an exciting arts precinct and community space.

By Train 

Victoria Park station on the Epping and Hurstbridge lines is the closest railway station to the Abbotsford Convent. 

To walk from the station, head away from the city down Johnston St for approx 10 minutes. Turn right into Clarke Street and then left into St Heliers St. The main entrance to Abbotsford Convent is on the right of St Heliers St before you reach the Collingwood Children’s farm.

To catch a bus from the station, the 200, 201and 207 run down Johnston St.

By Tram

Catch any tram down Victoria St Richmond (24, 42 or 109) and alight at Nicholson St Abbotsford. 

Walk north up Nicholson St for approx 15 minutes.  Turn right into Abbotsford St then at the end of Abbotsford St turn left into Clarke St and then right into St Heliers St. This is a 20-25 minute walk.

By Bus

From the City - the 200, 201 and the 207 depart from Melbourne Central/ Lonsdale St in the city. Alight at the Clarke Street bus stop (before Johnston Street crosses the Yarra). Turn right at Clarke St then turn left into St Heliers St. 

From Melbourne University - the 205 then proceeds down Johnston St and passes Clarke St.

By Bike or Foot

By Car 

The Abbotsford Convent is located at the end of St. Heliers St, Abbotsford. The easiest way to get here is to go via Johnston St then onto Clarke St then into St Heliers St (MELWAYS Ref 44 G5).

Parking

Limited all-day parking is available in the car park opposite the site on St Heliers St for $4 (gold coins are required). Parking in the neighbouring streets is mainly residential permit only on weekends.
